What “COLLISION INVOLVING INJURY” means

Texas Transportation Code § 550.021 requires the operator of a vehicle involved in an accident that results in, or is reasonably likely to result in, injury to or death of a person to immediately stop at the scene or as close as possible, or immediately return, determine whether anyone involved needs aid, remain at the scene, and comply with Texas Transportation Code § 550.023 by giving identifying and insurance information and rendering reasonable assistance to any injured person, including arranging transportation for medical treatment when it is apparent treatment is necessary or is requested. Failing to stop or to comply with those duties is the offense, commonly called failure to stop and render aid. This variant, § 550.021(c)(2), applies when the crash resulted in bodily injury that does not rise to the level of serious bodily injury, distinguishing it from the higher grades for accidents involving death or serious bodily injury.
