Texas Penal Code § 46.03, titled Places Weapons Prohibited, makes it an offense to intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly possess or go with a firearm, location-restricted knife, club, or prohibited weapon in specifically listed locations, even for a person who may otherwise lawfully carry. The listed places include the premises of schools and postsecondary institutions and their passenger vehicles; polling places during voting; government courts and court offices; racetracks; the secured area of an airport; the area near a place of execution on an execution day; bars deriving 51 percent or more of their income from on-premises alcohol sales; high school, collegiate, or professional sporting events; correctional and civil commitment facilities; hospitals, nursing facilities, and mental hospitals; amusement parks; and rooms where open governmental meetings are held. Under § 46.03(g), the offense is a third-degree felony except for certain variants that subsections (g-1) and (g-2) grade as misdemeanors.
