Texas Health and Safety Code § 481.1151 governs possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 1-A, which consists of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers. Because LSD is distributed in doses rather than by weight, the statute counts "abuse units" instead of grams: generally a single dosage unit on or in a carrier medium such as perforated blotter paper, a tablet, gelatin wafer, sugar cube, or stamp, or each quarter-inch square of undivided paper, and, for liquid, each 40 micrograms including adulterants and dilutants. Under subsection (b)(1), the State must prove the person knowingly or intentionally possessed fewer than 20 abuse units. This is the statute's lowest tier, a state jail felony, distinguished from subsection (b)(2), which begins at 20 abuse units.
