What “DUTY ON STRIKING UNATTENDED VEHICLE” means

Texas Transportation Code § 550.024 imposes duties on a driver who collides with an unattended vehicle. The driver must immediately stop and either locate the operator or owner of the unattended vehicle and give that person the driver's name and address, or leave in a conspicuous place on the struck vehicle a written notice giving the driver's name and address and a statement of the circumstances of the collision. The offense, listed on court records as "DUTY ON STRIKING UNATTENDED VEHICLE," consists of failing to stop and perform those notification duties. This filing is the variant under § 550.024(b)(2), which applies when the damage to all vehicles involved is $200 or more; a collision causing less damage than that is graded as a lower class of misdemeanor under § 550.024(b)(1).
